Ramblings of an old collector

When summer hit I just knew that I was going to be able to write more. Well, that didn't happen. I break it down into two reasons.

First, I spent the majority of my time this summer with the grandkids. I have 9 grandkids. The summer was spent having the grandkids at the house and doing activities with them. The last two grandkids arrived just the other day. Twins. If the wife and I weren't hanging out the grandkids we were helping out getting ready for the twins. Before I knew it, the summer was over and it was time to go back to school.

The second reason I didn't write this summer was I didn't have anything to say and to be honest, there wasn't much card collecting taking place. Makes it kind of hard to write about card collecting when there's not too much going on.

I thought that I better get something out here before I forget about it and before people forget about reading what I write.

On to the ramblings!

* I've completed my 2024 Topps Chrome All-Etch set. I seem to be more focused on finishing the subsets I collect than the main sets. I still haven't finished the 2024 or 2025 Topps sets yet.

* Funds have been tight lately which makes collecting cards a little more difficult. Most of my pick-ups have been from trades on TCDB. I have been able to pick up a few Rangers cards from Ebay.

Starting to get a decent player collection with Marcus Semien and Josh Smith.

* My Rangers were, overall, a disappointment. I really thought they were going to be better. I never thought they wouldn't be able to hit their weight.

* Shohei Ohtani had another fantastic year. I used to see a bunch of his base cards on Facebook $1.00 to $5.00 claim sales, but not anymore. I really don't see that many of his cards on Facebook at all, unless it's a high priced auction. I can't remember when I last picked up one of his cards.

* Cal Raleigh is another player who's played outside his mind. Hard to argue against Raleigh for MVP. I do question if he's another one year wonder like Brady Anderson. Anderson hit 50 dingers in '96. More than double any other year. As a matter of fact, he hit 16 homers in '95 and 18 in '97. Only time will tell about Raleigh.

* I did add to my Bobby Witt Jr collection.

Thought this was a cool looking card. Like Ohtani, I've had a harder time picking up Witt's cards too. I guess that's what I get for liking the best of the best.

I guess that's all of the ramblings for now. Hope there are a few readers still out there. Leave a comment to let me know.

Peace,
Michael

  2. The All-Etch cards look nice. My Twins were not the best either. Spending time with family and grandkids is a priority for me. Enjoy the time we have been given.

  3. I really like that All-Etch set. ... Nine grandchildren would make any summer speed by.

  4. 9 grand kids....Super Wow! Love it. Heck, I'd give up blogging if I had my one grandson with me for the summer (not really, but it definitely wouldn't be on the priority list). I did have him here (and his mother) for the entire month of September, but school here went back in August, so not a bunch of time. Still yet it was great!

  5. A. Congratulations on the new additions to your family. Glad you got a chance to spend some quality time with your grandchildren this summer.

    B. That's cool that you finished your 2024 Topps Chrome All-Etch insert set. Those cards are really nice looking. I cheated and ended up buying my set on eBay.

    C. As much as I love collecting Ohtani cards, I can't imagine buying any of his base cards for more than a buck or two... unless it was the last card I needed for a set (or something like that).
